Vegan Cardiologist

I'm the only vegan cardiologist that I know of. That gives me the opportunity to talk to the local Ornish group. The Ornish Lifestyle Program is a program to reverse coronary disease, including a low-fat vegetarian diet, exercise, meditation, and group support. I get to talk to them in February, which is the American Heart Association's Women and Heart Disease awareness month.

That is Super - being a cardiologist and vegan..more power to you.

I am transitioning into veganism - can you suggest any vegan supplement for vitamin B12? The only thing I have heard of is Red Star's Nutritional Yeast with fortified B12.Is there anything else?

    Thanks!

  2. Fortified grains and soy milk or a multivitamin are also good sources of B12.

  3. The only vegan cardiologist -that number is startling and a bit depressing. Caldwell Esselstyn, a surgeon, is often mistakenly referred to as a cardiologist (I consult with him re my own situation).

Hey! Awesome! I wish there were more people like you! Someone I love very much has been diagnosed with Ventricular Tachycardia a little over a year ago. She is only 24 years old. All the Cardiologists here in Canada say she needs an ablation. I wonder if you think there may be other things to try before deciding on an Ablation? She has been a vegetarian since the age of 9. Take care, and thanks for Existing :)

  5. George, thanks for stopping by. Sorry to hear about your friend with heart rhythm issues. However, I do not dispense individual medical advice here. Best of luck!

  6. I am new to the Temecula/Murrieta area and I would like to find a cardiologist who considers diet in a treatment plan. Unfortunately you are too far away but if you know of anyone down here or you know of a directory that lists healthy lifestyle minded doctors I would appreciate the information.
    Thanks.
