The secret to tempeh is to boil it for about 45 minutes. That softens it and gets the bitter taste out. Then I sauteed an onion and some frozen broccoli in my wok with canola oil, then some Sesame Garlic sauce, then added the tempeh to cook for another 5 minutes.

in the past, i have found tempeh to be bitter... i didn't realize WHY until this post. thanks, VeganDoc! it looks quite tasty, i must say (errrr... write).
somehow I just don't like tempeh.. or u knw maybe Seitan is just tooooo gooood to eat anything else!!
Actually, you only need to simmer for about 15-20 minutes, but I rarely do that because I'm lazy.
